7-Step Finishing Touches Checklist for Your New Phone

7-Step Finishing Touches Checklist for Your New Phone

Now that your data is transferred and your new phone is set up, run through these quick finishing touches to keep everything secure, smooth, and ready to go.

1. Confirm Your Accounts & Passwords

Make sure you’re signed into your Apple ID (iPhone) or Google Account (Android). Most importantly, check your email accounts — many phones will ask you to re-enter your email password before mail starts syncing.

2. Turn On Find My / Built-In Tracking

Enable the phone’s built-in tracking so you can locate or lock it if it’s ever lost or stolen:

  • iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → Find My → Find My iPhone
  • Samsung: Settings → Biometrics & Security → Find My Mobile
  • Google Pixel / Android: Settings → Security → Find My Device

Tip: Allow the app to access location so tracking works properly.

3. Update to the Latest Software

Go to Settings → Software Update and install any available updates. This improves security, battery life, and performance.

4. Set Up Security & Privacy

Add Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint or a strong passcode. While you’re there, review privacy options (app tracking, location access) to your preference.

5. Optimise Your Battery

iPhone: Enable Optimised Battery Charging

Samsung: Enable Battery Protection (limit to 85% where available)

6. Organise Your Home Screen

Put your most-used apps on the first page, group others into folders (e.g., Social, Work), and trim anything you don’t use. A tidy screen saves time daily.

7. Explore Helpful Features

Widgets for calendar, reminders, and weather

Focus / Do Not Disturb modes

Screen Time or Digital Wellbeing tools
