Trading in at the studio?

Moving everything from one phone to another can take a while, so there are two ways to do it.

£25, or £35 between iPhone and Android

We move it for you.

Leave both phones with us for 1 to 2 hours and we’ll move everything across. Your old phone’s trade-in value comes off the price of your new one, plus 5%.

Free

You move it at home.

Pay the full price today and take your new phone home. We hold your trade-in price for 14 days. Move your data across, bring your old phone back within 14 days, and we pay you its trade-in price plus 5% by bank transfer.

We’ll send you step-by-step instructions for the transfer and for resetting your old phone.

See the steps

Before you come in.

Most hold-ups at the counter are a forgotten password, a phone that isn't backed up, or Stolen Device Protection. Ten minutes at home can save you an hour here.

Bring with you.

  • Your old phone, charged.
  • Its passcode.
  • Your Apple Account or Google password.
  • Your bank card, for banking apps.
  • Photo ID, if your phone’s worth over £500.
  • Its original box, if you still have it.

Know your Apple Account password.

You’ll need it to sign out of your old phone and into your new one.

Forgotten it? Change it at home, using your phone’s passcode: Settings → your name → Sign-In & Security → Change Password. If you don’t know the passcode either, start at iforgot.apple.com. Account recovery can take days, so don’t leave it until the day you come in.

Android

Know your Google account password, and your Samsung account password on a Samsung. Forgotten one? Reset it before you come in, at g.co/recover or account.samsung.com.

Turn off Stolen Device Protection at home.

It’s there to protect you if your phone is stolen. Away from places your phone knows, like home and work, it adds a one-hour Security Delay before you can sign out of your Apple Account or turn off Find My. In the studio, that means an hour’s wait.

Turn it off before you leave home: Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Stolen Device Protection (Touch ID & Passcode on an iPhone SE). Turn it back on on your new phone.

Android

Newer Pixel and Samsung phones have Identity Check. Away from trusted places, it asks for your fingerprint or face before you can change these settings. Make sure your fingerprint or face unlock works before you come in.

Not backed up? You don’t have to be.

Quick Start copies everything straight from your old iPhone to the new one, without a backup, and you can do it here in the studio. It can take an hour or more with a lot of photos, so pick one of the two options above.

Want a backup as well? Do it at home on Wi-Fi: Settings → your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup. If your iCloud is full, a month of iCloud+ is the quickest fix. A backup is a safety net, not a shortcut: it won’t make the move any quicker here.

Android

Smart Switch on a Samsung, or Copy apps & data on other phones, copies straight across too.

Your codes go to the phone you’re trading in.

Two-step codes for your Apple Account, bank and email often arrive on your old phone. Keep it until your new one is signed in to everything.

Check your trusted phone number is up to date: Settings → your name → Sign-In & Security.

Banking and authenticator apps.

Some banking apps need setting up again on a new phone, with a text code or your card, so bring your card. If you use an authenticator app, like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, move your accounts across before the old phone is erased.

Using an eSIM?

Most UK networks let you move an eSIM while you set up the new phone. Some need you to contact them first, so check with yours before you come in.

Lost, stolen or blocked phones.

We check every phone’s IMEI before we buy it. A phone reported lost or stolen, or blocked by a network, can’t be traded in.

Not sure which suits you? Call us on 01440 840844.

Get your old phone ready.

Do these in order, once your new phone is in your hand.

  1. Back it up.

    iPhone

Settings → your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Back Up Now.

WhatsApp too: WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat Backup.

    Android

Settings → Google → Backup → Back up now. On some phones it’s under Settings → System.

WhatsApp too: WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup.

  2. Move everything to your new phone.

    Step-by-step setup guide

    iPhone

Use Quick Start. Turn on the new iPhone and hold it next to the old one, then follow the steps.

    Android

On a Samsung, use Smart Switch. On other phones, choose Copy apps & data when you set up the new one.

  3. Check it’s all there.

Don’t erase the old phone until you’re sure.

Open your photos, messages, WhatsApp and banking apps on the new phone. Make sure your two-step codes work there too, because some need the old phone to move them.

  4. Turn off Find My.

A phone still linked to your account can’t be reset, so we can’t buy it until this is done.

    iPhone

Sign out of your Apple Account: Settings → your name → Sign Out. This turns off Find My and Activation Lock.

    Android

Remove your Google and Samsung accounts: Settings → Accounts. This turns off Factory Reset Protection.

  5. Unpair your watch.

    iPhone

Watch app → All Watches → the info button → Unpair Apple Watch.

Moving to Android? Turn off iMessage too: Settings → Apps → Messages.

    Android

Galaxy Wearable → Disconnect, or unpair it in your watch’s own app.

  6. Take out your SIM.

Take out the SIM card, and any memory card. If you use an eSIM, move it to your new phone first. Erasing the old phone removes it.

  7. Erase it.

    iPhone

Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings.

    Android

Samsung: Settings → General management → Reset → Factory data reset.

Pixel: Settings → System → Reset options → Erase all data.

  8. Pack it and post it.

Still got its original box? Use that instead. A flawless, boxed phone can earn a bonus.

Put it in the box your new phone came in, with a note of your name and order number. Stick on the free tracked label we email you, and hand it in at any Post Office. Keep the receipt.

What happens to your data.

Wiped again.

Every phone we buy is wiped again before it’s sold on, even if you’ve already erased it.

A certificate, if you want one.

Ask, and we’ll send you a certificate for the wipe.

Checked against your quote.

If the condition isn’t what you picked, we’ll send photos, a video and a new offer. Accept it or say no.

Questions.

Can you take my trade-in off the price at checkout?

No. Checkout charges the full price of your new phone. Your trade-in is paid to you separately, the same day it arrives.

I’ve forgotten my Apple Account password. Can I still trade in?

Yes, once it’s reset. A phone still linked to your account can’t be reset or reused, so we can’t buy it until you can sign out. You can change the password on the phone with its passcode, or start at iforgot.apple.com.

Why does turning off Find My make me wait an hour?

That’s Stolen Device Protection. Away from home or work, it makes you wait an hour before you can sign out or turn off Find My, so a thief can’t do it quickly. Turn it off at home before you come in, and back on on your new phone.

Do I need a backup to trade in?

No. Quick Start copies everything from your old iPhone to the new one directly, and you can do it in the studio. A backup is still a good safety net.

How do I get the extra 5%?

Buy anything from us and send us your old phone within 14 days of your order, with a note of your name and order number in the parcel. We add 5% to its trade-in price. It’s paid by bank transfer. In the studio, if you’re trading in on the spot, it can come off your new phone there and then instead.

How long is my price held?

14 days from your quote.

Do I have to buy something to trade in?

No. You can sell us your phone any time. The extra 5% is for trade-ins that go with an order from us, whatever you buy.

What if my phone is damaged or doesn’t work?

We still buy it. Choose Damaged or Faulty when you get your price.

What if I forget to turn off Find My?

We’ll get in touch. You can remove it without the phone: sign in at icloud.com/find, or remove it from your Google account’s device list.

Can you move my data for me?

Yes. It’s £25, or £35 between iPhone and Android, and we ask you to leave both phones with us for 1 to 2 hours. Or take your new phone home, move everything yourself with our step-by-step instructions, and bring your old phone back within 14 days.
